About Us

KENYA NATIONAL CONGRESS is a progeny of the original Forum for the Restoration of Democracy (FORD). Formed in 1991, the original FORD was put together against the backdrop of KANU's many years of misrule. Indeed it promised to turn into a formidable political machine that could transform Kenya’s political landscape.

Soon after its formation, however, it was hit by a spate of misunderstandings that saw it split into two factions, namely, FORD- Asili and FORD- Kenya led by Hon. Kenneth Njindo Matiba and Hon. Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, respectively. These two factions went into the 1992 general elections and lost to the KANU regime.

In the 2013 general elections, the party decided to go it alone and presented Hon Peter Kenneth as the presidential candidate.

The Party National Delegates Congress meeting at the Sagret Hotel Nairobi on July 19th, 2020 installed Hon. Manson Nyamweya as Party leader, replacing Hon. Peter Kenneth who had ditched the Party.
